Mom to Mom: Let Kids Be Kids — Stop Making Excuses for Their Bad Days

Episode Summary

Mom to Mom: Let Kids Be Kids — Stop Making Excuses for Their Bad Days Your kid had a bad day. They got in trouble at school. They talked back. They didn't play well. They bombed the test. They lost their temper. The coach corrected them. Maybe another parent called you about something they did. What's your first reaction? Do you immediately start explaining it away? “They're tired.” “They've had a hard week.” “The teacher doesn't understand them.” “The coach was too hard on them.” “That's not like my kid.” In this Mom to Mom solo episode of the Root Cause Holistic Health Podcast, Tracey Green talks about something that's difficult for every parent: Sometimes our kids are going to have bad days—and sometimes they're simply going to make bad choices. And that's okay. Our job isn't to convince the world that our children are perfect. Our job is to help them grow into adults who can recognize when they've messed up, take responsibility, apologize, learn from it, and try again tomorrow. Tracey digs into the difference between supporting your child and rescuing your child. Of course there are times when parents need to step in and advocate. There may also be legitimate reasons behind a child's behavior that deserve attention and compassion. But understanding why something happened doesn't always mean removing responsibility for what happened. Maybe instead of immediately asking, “Who did this to my kid?”, we occasionally need to ask: “What did my kid contribute to this situation?” That's a hard question for a parent. But it can also be an incredibly important one. Childhood should be a safe place to mess up. To experience consequences. To learn humility. To discover that one bad decision doesn't make you a bad person—and that tomorrow gives you another opportunity to do better. Let kids be kids. Let them have bad days. Let them get corrected. Let them fail sometimes. Let them own their mistakes. And then love them through the process of learning how to get back up. 🎧 Grab your coffee and join Tracey for a real Mom to Mom conversation about raising kids with grace, accountability, resilience, and responsibility.
